5/30 Meeting Follow-Up

Vielen dank to all who showed last night for Stormy Tuesday! For those not in the know, the recap:

The big exciting news is that we have deadlines! (Aw, maaaan!) Now, now kids, settle down. These deadly lines are necessary to get this thing off the ground, so here they are:

June 19th - We need to have your submission ideas for Combustion 1: RESCUE by this date to see where we need to fill in holes and to make sure that people are moving forward and have all the resources they need. They do not need to be fully formed, but we need to know they exist. You can email them to us if you’re shy, but the best way to give and get feedback is in the forum. We’ve added a handy-dandy link on the sidebar. Don’t be a lurker. Be a poster.

July 1st - This is the day we are hoping to have the crazy-sexy-cool website/e-zine up and running. We are hoping for it to be thematically sympatico with Combustion, so keep RESCUE in mind. It’s going to be beautiful and it’s going to be rich with work - make sure yours is included. Again, the forum is a great place to let us know when/what you’d like to submit for inclusion.

ASAP - Don’t you love specifics? We are organizing the Launch Party/Fundraiser which will be upon us quickly and we need donations for the silent auction. If you can donate a piece of art, it will be a great way to get your work in front of our audience early, a tax write-off which is neato and you will be helping us out in a grand way. We’re thanking you already. We are also looking for donations from businesses (restaurants, hair stylists, personal trainers, dog whisperers, etc.) so if you know of anyone who you think would like to help out and get the name of their business in front of a bunch of folks that would be great. Please, again, visit the forum and tell us something good.

5/22 Meeting Follow-Up

Thanks once more to everyone who came out for Stormy Monday! Here’s your recap:

People are ready to work and this is exciting! They are also ready to join forces: to that end, we have created a forum for you to post projects you are working on and need help with, projects you are interested in working on or to advertise yourself as an artistic-gun-for-hire. The forum is HERE. Sign up so that we can feel your internet presence and please forward it to others who you would like to work with/think would be interested.

Learn it. Live it. Love it.

To work toward the first Combustion, you need THE WORD and we (with a little help from the hand of Fate) have selected the first one:

We want to utilize the talents of the people we have brought together however we can and many of you are digital mavens. So as a part of Combustion and as a way to create buzz and inspiration in general, we are also endeavoring to create an e-zine in conjunction with our website with a targeted launch date of July 1st. Add that to your fuel for fire!

Many things are in the works and we will post more shortly. Please be aware that this coming Stormy Monday will actually be a Stormy Tuesday due to the holiday weekend. We hope to see you there!

5/15 Meeting Follow-Up

Thanks to everyone who made it to Tribe last night (and to Sean for his masterful mixology)! We all had a great time and look forward to continuing our “Stormy Mondays”. (Keep your eye on the sidebar for details on the next one…)

For those of you who couldn’t make the 1st meeting, here is a taste of what you missed:

SparkPlug: BIG IDEAS? We got ‘em.We mingled and got to know some amazing artists last night. We were also able to introduce Christopher Lee (actor, writer, and man-about-town) who has agreed to join us as an Artistic Director.Rebekkah has done all of the required paperwork to incorporate SparkPlug as a good ol’ fashioned capital “i” Inc. - legitimate & kosher with the Secretary of State. The next step (which is in the works) is our 501(c)3 not-for-profit status - great for your giving karma and your tax returns. This enables us to begin the necessary fundraising to finance our BIG IDEAS.

Speaking of which, save the date: Thursday, July 20 for our fundraising launch party at a fabulous locale to be announced shortly. We will be holding a silent auction and we are already in search of goods and talents to auction off. Please let us know if you have any ideas…

As has already been mentioned, our creative process is three-tiered (a three pronged plug):

1. Stormy Mondays: Our weekly informal brainstorming sessions

2. Combustion: A series of monthly multi-media performances unified by THE WORD

3. Fully mounted SparkPlug Productions: theatrical / film productions / publicationsTo start the Combustion process we need to choose the first three WORDS to inspire and unify our diverse array of artistic work. If you haven’t already, please fill out this form and pick the 5 words or phrases you find most inspiring and provocative. (No need to return it to us in the same format, giving us the info in the body of an email is a-okay.) We will announce the winning WORDS by the end of the week - so be sure and vote soon. If you create something that is performed or screened we are aiming for 5 - 7 minute length pieces.Though not yet set in stone, we are in talks with the Amato Opera House as the location for our first night of Combustion to be held on either Thursday, Sept 14 or Thursday, Sept 21. Performers may chose to incorporate the set of the opera into their work. We will then move to Mannahatta for an after party/continued viewing (perhaps) which is directly across the street. These are two beautiful locations.

SparkPlug Meeting: May 15th

SparkPlug: A Beginning

“Stop moaning, start creating” - the sentiment that encouraged us to take a ridiculously long lunch-break in order to formulate a plan.

Rebekkah Ross & Lauren Koch have begun a new collaboration/brainstorming process that aims to bring together artists from every medium under the working title of SparkPlug Productions.

Our first step: Stormy Mondays - a weekly gathering of like-minded artists to bounce ideas off each other in an informal and supportive setting.

Our second step: Combustion - a monthly evening of multi-media performance to see where our brainstorming has taken us.

Our third step: fully staged/filmed SparkPlug Productions.

The possibilities are endless!

SparkPlug Productions is a venture that seeks to create a safe and inspiring environment for artists across all areas of the arts. Our aim in bringing together a diversified group is to foster collaboration and to offer the opportunity of creative control over one’s own work. Ideally, artists will join forces with like-minded people. Part of the spirit of this forum is to build an audience and to be an audience. By working together, we hope to develop a platform that allows us to break through boundaries and conventions to create new works; as well as a community of artists.We are looking for hungry artists who have something to say; artists who are looking to flex a creative muscle they may have let rest too long. And, of course, we are looking for good team members.The goal of Stormy Mondays is to create a weekly gathering where artists can come together to brainstorm - to inspire and be inspired - in a relaxed, but supportive setting.

The goal of Combustion is to create a monthly presentation of graphic arts, photography, short film, music, video art and theatre in a structured evening that unifies the works. Artists will be given a set of guidelines and a deadline. They will also be offered the support of the other members of the group, (i.e. a playwright who needs actors, a director who needs an editor, etc.). We believe that Combustion will be another vehicle for brainstorming without being a burden on the artist.

The ultimate goal of SparkPlug Productions is to create a springboard through Stormy Mondays and Combustion for the creation and production of full-length pieces.
